What is the Paperless Day campaign
The Paperless Day campaign is organized by the Environment
Agency Abu Dhabi (EAD) and is a day with less paper.
On this day all the participating organizations, institutions and
individuals commit to stop all unnecessary use of paper.
Organizations
On this day we ask organizations halt all non-essential printing
and copying to help the staff understand and become aware of
the fact that it is indeed possible to function with less
paper. Paper would not be available in printers and copiers on this
day and can be acquired only through designated focal points after
the need is confirmed.
All external communication that involves printing like Cheques
and LPO's would continue unaffected as the campaign is an internal
process within the participating entities applying to all form of
internal communication.
Since evaluation is essential for identifying progress, all
organizations will measure their paper use on the Paper-Less Day
and report it in relation to their average paper use on a normal
day.
The campaign seeks a commitment from all staff and employees to
reduce paper use. It encourages the participating entities to keep
things fun and exciting. Organizations can gift responsible
employees who print less and even celebrate the Paperless Day
through awareness events like internal seminars. Moreover this
campaign should not be an attempt to change existing policies. It
is not an idealistic or utopian goal as we at EAD do realize that
paper is definitely a necessity in the world today. However it is
the wastage or misuse of paper that we can and should
eliminate.
Academic Institutions
For academic institutions like schools and universities where it
may be not be possible to apply concrete actions like halting
internal printing and copying, they can observe the
Paperless Day by organizing fun activities that help raise
awareness about paper and its misuse.
Tips
- Make paper bags from newspapers and donate it to shops with
your school logo on it
- Organize a workshop on Paper Mache.
- Have a fashion show from paper.
Individuals
As an individual you too can register to be a part of our
campaign. Since a data report won't be feasible here you can find
interesting and creative ways to show your support for the
